Talk Python Membership

A members community orbiting the podcast and courses. You'll get an active Discord with Michael and episode guests, monthly live tech meetups with recordings, 5–10 minute Audio Summaries of selected episodes, and a private, ad-free podcast feed. The focus is community and learning first; ad-free listening is the bonus.

Where to start: Visit /community to see how it works, then choose a tier at /community/join.

• REPL Regular: Discord access, monthly tech meetups + archive, Audio Summaries, and the private ad-free feed.
• Virtual Env VIP: Everything above, plus a one-time on-air shoutout when you join or upgrade, swag after 6 months, and one free course after 12 months as a VIP (or higher) member, then another every 12 months after that.
• Core Dev Circle: Everything in VIP, plus recurring end-of-episode shoutouts (your name, and a company or project if you'd like it mentioned), a mug and a shirt shipped when you join, a signed copy of Talk Python in Production (once the print edition is released), and access to all Talk Python Training courses after 12 months in the Core Dev Circle.

After you join, connect Discord from your Memberful account (your member dashboard links to it). Memberful adds you to our server with the role for your tier, so you'll see the member-only channels right away. Roles update automatically on upgrades/downgrades within a short window. If you connected the wrong Discord account or don't see member channels, see Troubleshooting below.

Each one has its own job. Your Talk Python account (the same one you use for Talk Python courses, at training.talkpython.fm) signs you in to your member dashboard, your private feed and the meetups. Your Memberful account is for billing and Discord: your payment method, receipts, changing tiers, cancelling, and connecting Discord.

Nearly all podcast apps support "add by URL." Copy your unique, private RSS link from your member dashboard and paste it into the app's add-by-URL flow:

• Apple Podcasts (Mac): File → Follow a Show by URL…, paste, Follow.
• Apple Podcasts (iPhone/iPad): Library → … (More) → Follow a Show by URL, paste, Follow.
• Overcast: Tap + → Add URL, paste the feed.
• Pocket Casts: Add podcast and paste the RSS URL (supports private/member feeds).
• AntennaPod (Android): + Add Podcast, paste the RSS URL (AntennaPod also supports RSS deeplinks).

One focused tech talk per month, live on Discord (in a voice channel, with video streaming), with Q&A. Expect 15–30 minutes on a timely tool, pattern, or workflow, followed by discussion. Recordings are archived for members who can't attend live and are linked from your member dashboard.

Short 5–10 minute audio briefings that capture an episode's key ideas so you can decide whether to queue the full show. We make them for selected episodes, not every one.

Where to find them:

• Your member dashboard (listen right on the page).
• Interwoven in your private ad-free podcast feed, right alongside full episodes.

It should update very quickly on our end. Your private feed is generated in near-real time and server-side caching is 1 minute max. Most delays come from the app's own refresh interval or local cache.

Try this:

1. Pull-to-refresh (or the app's "refresh" option).
2. Fully quit/reopen the app, then refresh the show.
3. If nothing works, email support@talkpython.fm with your app name and version.

Yes. You can add your private URL to multiple devices/players for your personal use. Please don't share it publicly. If a link shows signs of broad sharing or abuse, we may rotate or revoke it to protect member content and the community.

Automatically. Once you've connected Discord from your Memberful account, Memberful assigns the correct Discord role for your tier whenever your membership is created or changed. Upgrades and downgrades propagate shortly thereafter. If something seems off after a change, sign out/in of Discord, then contact support if it persists.

Yes. Reply to your welcome email with the name you'd like read on air (and how to pronounce it), or email us at support@talkpython.fm any time to change it.

Simple: Be kind, welcoming, and constructive. Assume guests and fellow members are present and reading along. Critique ideas respectfully; no personal attacks. Share resources generously. No spam. Violations may result in moderation actions to keep the space safe and productive.

Not entirely. You can enjoy Audio Summaries, meetup recordings, and your private ad-free feed without Discord. That said, live events happen on Discord, and most members find the conversation there to be the heart of the experience.

VIP swag is tenure-based: it ships after 6 active months at VIP or above. Months don't have to be consecutive; we track cumulative active months at VIP or above. Core Dev's swag is the mug and shirt, shipped when you join, plus a signed copy of Talk Python in Production once the print edition is released; there's no separate six-month package.

Your member dashboard shows when you're eligible. Then email support@talkpython.fm to claim it and we'll ship it.

• VIP: One free course once you've had 12 active months at VIP or above, then another every 12 months after that. Your member dashboard shows when you're eligible; then email support@talkpython.fm to claim it. It's a single course of your choice (not a bundle), for you as the member, and isn't transferable.
• Core Dev: All courses access begins after 12 months in the Core Dev Circle and stays active while your membership remains active.

Make the change in your Memberful account. When Memberful applies the change, your benefits switch to your new tier. Example: moving from Core Dev Circle → REPL Regular stops the end-of-episode shoutouts and leaves you with REPL benefits.

Months at a higher tier count toward lower-tier perks, so a downgrade never loses tenure you've earned. Months at REPL Regular don't count toward VIP or Core Dev perks.

Use your Memberful account to update payment methods, upgrade/downgrade, view invoices, and cancel.

We don't offer refunds. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the current term. If there are extenuating circumstances, email support@talkpython.fm and we'll review.

Perks end when your current term ends. That includes Discord roles, your private feed, Audio Summaries and meetup recordings, and any tier-specific shoutouts. Core Dev shoutouts stop once the term concludes. If you rejoin later, your earlier active months still count toward tenure perks.

No. Billing and account workflows are handled by Memberful and Stripe. Outside of those processors and essential services (for example, email delivery), we don't resell your data. See Memberful's Privacy Policy and Data Protection pages from our privacy policy.

Yes, your feed is unique to you. Keep it private. If it's widely shared, we may rotate or revoke it to protect member content and the community.

Use Delete my account (it's also linked from your member dashboard), or email us at support@talkpython.fm. This deletes your Talk Python account (the same one you use for Talk Python courses), courses included, and also cancels your membership: billing stops, with no refund. Your member dashboard and courses end right away; Discord access lasts until the end of the period you've already paid for. Start with these checks:

1. Confirm you pasted the full URL (no spaces, starts with https://) into the app's add by URL flow.
2. Try another supported player to isolate whether it's app-specific.
3. There's no username or password. The private key in the URL is what identifies you, so if the app asks for credentials, it didn't get the whole link. Copy it again from your member dashboard.

Keep that link secret: anyone who has it can play your feed. If it leaks, email support@talkpython.fm and we'll replace it.

• Make sure you connected Discord from your Memberful account, using the Discord account you actually sign in with.
• If you changed tiers recently, sign out/in of Discord to force a role refresh.
• If it persists, @mention Michael Kennedy or DM him on the server, or email support@talkpython.fm so we can resync your role.
